E-Books Added to Google Play in France

French bookworms can now access e-books via Google Play.

The addition of the e-books to Google's marketplace comes a month after the corporation with French book publishers to return out-of-print works to the public by digitizing millions of stories.

Google said its selection include hundreds of thousands of French titles – everything from new releases to classics to bestsellers.

With the new book launch, France becomes the fifth European country to add books to its Play store, following Germany, Spain, Italy, and the U.K., Google's Philippe Colombet wrote in a blog post.

"Books on Google Play is all about choice," Colombet wrote. "We're offering many titles and many ways to access and read them, so that your library is literally at your fingertips no matter where you are."

French users can access Google Play's cloud anytime, anywhere, on almost any device. Books can be purchased and instantly available on Android phones and tablets, as well as a PC or Mac. iOS users can read books in the Google Play Books app.

"Whether you're a bookworm or a casual reader, we hope you find something great to read on Google Play," he said.

The search juggernaut has faced difficulties with its e-book efforts in the U.S. Last month, that a lawsuit against Google over its book digitization effort can be designated as a class action.
